Where is it illegal to consume cannabis in Red Wing?
  • Cannabis can not be used when operating a motor vehicle or operating heavy machinery. Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal and subject to additional DWI sanctions.
  • Any public place or public property generally accessible to the public such as city parks, city streets, city sidewalks, parking lots, sporting events, trails, pathways, etc.
  • The MN Clean Air Act prohibits the use of cannabis anywhere smoking and vaping is also prohibited.
  • Cannabis can not be possessed or used in a public school, charter school, school bus, state correctional facility, federal property, federally subsidized housing, or while on an employer’s premises, or operating an employer’s vehicle, machinery or equipment.
  • In a location where the smoke, aerosol or vapor could be inhaled by a minor.
  • Smoking or vaping adult-use cannabis products is prohibited in multi-family housing buildings, including patios and balconies. OCM can assess a fine if there is clear evidence showing a person has violated Minnesota Statues, section 342.56m subd. 1(b). See complaint section.
  • Violations of these guidelines are considered a petty misdemeanor.
  • The City of Red Wing adopted Ordinance No. 210 on April 8, 2024, regarding the use of cannabis and hemp products in public. See section 10.29 of City Code.
