Old West Main & Upper Harbor Renewal Project

Pedestrian Bridge Update:
The Contractor completed the final pour on Pier 1 this week, serving as the final pour for the vertical concrete work for both bridge Pier 1 and 2. The settlement period on the embankment is over half completed and it's anticipated that in a couple of weeks construction of the north abutment will be allowed to begin. The Contractor completed the excavation of the south abutment and discovered an uncompacted fill layer at the elevation of the abutment footing. The fill layer was unexpected and needs to be resolved before the footing is able to be constructed. The project team is currently working through multiple different options and it is anticipated that there will be a stoppage of work for up to a couple of weeks until a resolution is approved. The risk of changing soil conditions is a reality for any project and something the project team is confident can be resolved.
Old West Main Street Update
The Contractor officially agreed to hold his bid prices until the City receives the outcome of the Local Road Improvement Project (LRIP) grant award which is expected in June. The proposed agreement will be presented to City Council during its Monday, May 10 meeting. Following this approval, the project is currently in a holding period. A construction open house is still planned to be provided prior to the start of any construction and more information will be forthcoming once a specific date and time are set.
